Is the character design a paying gig, something for school, or just something to add to your portfolio? For a stationary store, I'd have to rule out Simpsons in favor of Dilbert... though Office Depot in the US had used Dibert characters in their ads a while back. Maybe in a King of the Hill style character? Has to look like someone who would hand-write a letter, either for work or for personal correspondence (and not a ransom note)... maybe Lisa Simpson?
